Help enhance our afterschool programs for elementary age youth! Support our program delivery after school, including recess, homework help, snack, art, STEM, sports and games! We strive to provide our youth with consistency. We seek volunteers who are interested in supporting our after-school programming at least once per week for at least 3 months. Having a regular, ongoing presence in the program helps volunteers build strong relationships with our children youth. Our programs run daily after school from 2:30-6:30pm. Shifts are available 1+hours daily. Clubhouses will be assigned based off volunteer availability and skills set.
Duties
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor to students
- Prepare and facilitate activities (e.g. arts, recess, sports and games) with students
- Greet students when they enter the space
- Engage students in conversation and activities
- Assist with snack distribution
- Promote positive peer interactions among students
- Provide one-on-one and small group assistance with homework or academic needs
- Maintain a positive attitude and remain patient with students
- Help prepare and clean space
Desired Skills:
- Experience working with youth in tutoring or mentoring role
- Ability to motivate and provide direction, as well as excitement for teaching or tutoring
- Patience and understanding of barriers faced by youth and how this affects their focus, learning, behavior, and consistency
- Must be able to support and affirm youth with diverse cultures, racial and ethnic identities, religious beliefs, sexual orientations, abilities, and countries of origin
- Able to make a three month commitment
All volunteers and interns must complete all the following steps before starting:
- Apply for the volunteer position
- Complete all necessary paperwork
- Submit two character references
- Criminal Background Check (at the BGCB's expense)
- Attend an in person or virtual volunteer orientation
COVID INFORMATION:
- Effective October 1, 2021, all Club staff, volunteers, and anyone that enters the Club facilities will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. A person is considered fully-vaccinated two weeks after having all does of a vaccine (2 doses for Pfizer, Moderna; 1 dose for Johnson & Johnson).
