300 Trees is a Bellevue-based project operating under the nonprofit umbrella of 350 Eastside. Our mission is to help Bellevue achieve its goal of a 40% tree canopy through free tree giveaways, large planting projects at schools and in neighborhoods, and amendment of the City’s land use codes to preserve the existing canopy. Equity, creativity, and scalability are core principles for us, and we’re excited to work with new people to bring more trees and their benefits to Bellevue residents.
We are offering an unpaid internship with an expected workload of 20-24 hours per week. It will run for the duration of the 2021 summer quarter (July 1 - August 19). Upon completion, intern will be eligible to receive letters of recommendation with full accounts of their internship responsibilities and products.
Most tasks can be completed on your own time, though we will supply specific deadlines/expectations, where appropriate. We will schedule weekly check-ins to see how you’re progressing and make sure we’re all supporting each other’s work. While we have many of our own projects and ideas, you are encouraged to bring your own thoughts and passions to the table for consideration.
Tasks (in no particular order)
- Land Use Code research and language development to improve protection and preservation of Bellevue's significant trees, supporting and enhancing the City of Bellevue's Environmental Stewardship Initiative on this issue
- Help design and implement our 2021-2022 fundraising campaign/strategy
- Assist with nursery setup (erecting sheds/structures, setting up water catchment system, planting seedlings, creating beds, mixing growing medium, composting, etc)
- Organize Sammamish High planting event (scheduled for fall 2021)
- Develop an outreach strategy and materials to connect with neighbors (working off of data we are expecting from the Bellevue Parks Department about roundabouts that are prime planting locations in residential areas)
- Arrange additional fall planting events through the Bellevue Parks Department, Bellevue College, and/or the Bellevue School District
- Pitch original ideas and projects to the 300 Trees team in line with our goals. We will do our best to support initiatives that you feel passionately about and that align with our mission.
