YWCA Family Village Redmond is located in downtown Redmond with 20 units of housing for families who have experienced homelessness. YWCA offices and services are located on the first floor, with recreational facilities on the south-facing side of the building.

 

YWCA Working Wardrobe at Family Village Redmond assists low-income women and men in selecting interview and work appropriate clothing. Volunteers will work directly with clients to assist them in finding appropriate clothing. During downtime, you will help maintain the space which includes some light cleaning and organizing, as well as sorting through gently used donated clothing to determine what is suitable for the program.

 

 Responsibilities include: 

  • Assist clients in finding clothing, shoes and accessories
  • Maintain the upkeep of the dressing room area
  • Return unwanted clothing to racks
  • Dress mannequins when needed
  • Bag clothing for clients

Qualifications needed:

  • Available one Tuesday (9am to 12pm) or one Friday (9am-12pm) per month
  • Six month minimum commitment
  • Enthusiastic to learn more and engage in YWCA mission of eliminating racism and empowering women
  • Good eye for selecting and properly fitting clothing for different body types
  • Outgoing, people person
  • Compassionate and empathetic listener and communicator
  • Previous retail or person experience with fashion and dressing different body types
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

Physical demands of position:

  • Carry heavy clothing on hangers
  • May move boxes of clothing from one place to another

Training and Support:

  • Volunteer orientation and training provided by YWCA staff and lead volunteers
  • On-going support as needed from YWCA staff

All YWCA ongoing volunteers/interns must complete all the following steps before starting:

  • Apply for the volunteer position
  • Complete all necessary paperwork
  • Submit two character references
  • Attend a YWCA Volunteer Orientation within 30 days of the volunteer's first day.

All YWCA volunteers under age 16 are required to have a parent or guardian volunteer with them.
