Mercer Island Thrift Shop (MITS) is seeking volunteers to become a regular part of our cashier team with a commitment of one shift per week. MITS is a nonprofit business that values a culture of community involvement, volunteer skills development, and reducing our community footprint on the planet through resale; the best form of recycling. As a bustling group of 100 volunteers, management team and work study students, we are proud that we provide the major source of funding for the City of Mercer Island’s department of Youth & Family Services (MIYFS).

  Shifts are flexible 8:00-6:00pm, Sunday through Thursday.   Our online shop was our sole revenue marker during the 2020 shut down. This store has moved to a modern interface to provide simplicity for online users to toggle between MITS website and online shop. We are looking for someone who enjoys taking photos of objects. Our online photographer takes photos from multiple angles for the online shopper to assess the item they wish to purchase. Further photo taking duties may be assigned for marketing purposes.    Responsibilities:  Operate iPhone camera Ability to check the quality of items Brand identification skills, or ability to research them Maintain a quality inventory of items for online store Work as a team to meet store goals MITS is a fun, fast paced environment with a diverse work force from youth to seniors. 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The General Hardgood Stocker is responsible for performing various stocking functions, maintaining clean sales floor and providing excellent customer service.

 

Responsibilities: 

Exhibit friendly customer interactions

Stay up to date on store promotions and current in-store product

Handle customer complaints

Organize new inventory to be appealing to customer base

Ensures inventory is located in the correct location

Rotates product effectively

Follows safe lifting procedures while moving and placing merchandise

Work as a team to meet store goals

7:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Our area is designed to serve one donor at a time. Donation material handlers provide direction and assistance to donors with loading their donations into carts to keep the line running smoothly. They also move carts of product to the processing department when full.

Stay up to date on accepted items list

Practice safe lifting procedures when handling donated items

Handle customer complaints

Work as a team to ensure donation drop-offs runs smoothly

We provide full training on a modern P.O.S. system and a cashier training handbook you get to keep. You can use our online app to schedule your shifts and time away or we can manage your specified times for you.
