Hepatitis Education Project (HEP) needs regular volunteers to help run our syringe services program (SSP). At our SSP, volunteers provide our clients with important harm reduction resources such as overdose reversal kits (naloxone) and sterile supplies for safer drug use. With your help, people can get access to the crucial resources they need to prevent overdose deaths and the transmission of hepatitis in our community.
Volunteering at HEP is also an incredible opportunity to learn about our innovative model for reducing rates of hepatitis transmission in our community. Not only do we offer supplies and education for hepatitis prevention, but HEP also offers an incentivized hepatitis testing program, as well as a care coordination program for people who need support getting hepatitis treatment. In addition to this, our partnership with Seattle ROOTS allows us to offer an on-site suboxone clinic for anyone who decides they want to use medicine to reduce their opioid use. While SSP volunteers will only be working at SSP, there are opportunities for them to learn about other programs offered in the space.
This is an incredible opportunity for anyone who enjoys talking to people, supporting our neighbors, and learning about models for strengthening public health through low barrier services. Our SSP is open Monday-Thursday from 12:30PM-5:30PM. We currently have many weekly and biweekly shifts available throughout the week.
